On the sign:

Translation of the text on the sign:
The Palmach symbol
At dawn on Tuesday, May 18, 1948, the "Harel" Palmach occupied Mount Zion.

The next day before dawn, twenty-two warriors broke through the Zion Gate to help the brave defenders of the besieged Jewish quarter in the Old City.

With their own bodies, without armor or cannon, they sacrificed their souls on the walls of Jerusalem

Those who pass through this gate will remember them!
