THE RAMPARTS WALK

1947-1949 CE

The 1948 War
After the "Partition Plan" was ratified by the United Nations (1947), Arab forces laid partial siege to Jerusalem. The city’s Jewish defenders opened roads to and from Jerusalem while defending its residents during clashes. They Succeeded in gradually removing the siege and establishing control in western Jerusalem. The Old City was captured by the Jordanian legion, and the city defenders were taken prisoner. For 19 years (1948-1967), Jerusalem was divided between the State of Israel and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
