Ericeira was the 4th Customs House in the Kingdom after Lisbon, Porto and Setúbal. Ericeira’s commercial boats called "Rascas" measured 20 meters in length, had 3 masts and 4 sails and sailed to Brazil where there was a colony of people from Ericeira.
