האזור המקודש
אזור זה שימש מוקד פולחני במשך למעלה מאלפיים שנה, למן תקופת הברונזה הקדומה ועד תקופת הברזל I. סדרה של מקדשים (1, 3-5). שנבנו אחד על גבי השני, נחשפה בחתך העמוק שנחפר על ידי משלחת אוניברסיטת שיקגו. "משלחת חפירות מגידו" בראשות אוניברסיטת תל אביב חשפה מכלול פולחני נוסף (2), הגדול והמפואר מסוגו בארץ-ישראל ושכנותיה. במסדרונותיו נמצאו אלפי עצמות בעלי חיים - שרידים לקורבנות שהובאו אליו כמנחה.

The Sacred Area
This area served as a focus of worship for over two thousand years, from the Early Bronze through the Iron I periods. The University of Chicago excavation section revealed a series of temples (1, 3-5) built one on top of the other. The Megiddo Expedition, led by a team from Tel Aviv University, uncovered an additional temple (2) unique in the Levant in its monumentality and the thousands of sacrificial animal bones found in and around it.

Tel Megiddo is one of the most important archaeological sites in Israel.
The site was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005.
