הקרבות על אכסניית נוטרדם
עם צאת הצבא הבריטי מירושלים, ביום 14 במאי 1848, תפס כוח ערבי את אכסניית נוטרדם.
במסגרת "מבצע קלשון" הוחלט לכבוש את האכסניה. בליל 18 במאי 1848 כבשה את המבנה יחידה של "ההגנה" מגדוד "מוריה", שכללה תגבורת של לוחמי חי"ש (חיל שדה) מאזור תל אביב.
כעבור יומיים תקף כוח צבאי של הלגיון הירדני, שכלל שריון ורגלים, את הכוחות המחזיקים בנוטרדם במטרה לפרוע לעבר מרכז ירושלים היהודית. לוחמים מגדוד "מוריה" ומגדודי הנוער (גדנ"ע) הדפו את הכוח התוקף ומנעו את התקדמות הלגיון אל מרכז העיר.

THE BATTLE OF NOTRE DAME HOSPICE
On the night of May 18th 1948 during Operation Kilshon a unit of the Moria battalion occupied the Notre Dame Hospice, driving out the Jordanian troops, who had occupied the building since the British forces left the city on May 14th, 1948. Two days later, the Israell troops together with pre-military young soldiers repulsed an Arab Jordanian Legion renewed attempt to retake the hospice and advance into the Jewish city center.

The sign shape is rectangular but its head is designed according to the silhouette of the old building of the Gymnasia Herzliya, which serves as a logo of the Council for the Preservation of Heritage Sites in Israel
