בשנים 1956-1952 פעל באתר זה מתקן ייחודי להפרדת איזוטופים על בסיס שיטה חלוצית שפתח פרופ’ ישראל דוסטרובסקי ממכון ויצמן למדע. מדעני המכון, בהנהגת פרופ’ דוסטובסקי, הפיקו כאן איזוטופים כבדים של חמצן עבור מחקרים חזית המדע בכימיה, פיסיקה, מדעי החיים, חקר המוח ורפואה.
מתקן זה שנולד מתוך מחקר בסיסי, סיפק במשך שנים רבות און רב התצרוכת העולמית לאיזוטופים O¹⁸ ו- O¹⁷ דבר שהוביל את מכון ויצמן למדע להקים בשנת 1959 את חברת היישומים הטכנולוגיים הראשונה בישראל, ידע חברה למחקר ופיתוח בע"מ

From 1952 to 1996, an historic facility stood on this site, where isotopes were separate. based on a pioneering method developed by Prof. Israel Dostrovsky of the Weizmann Institute of Science. Here were scientists, led by Prof. Dostrovsky, produced heavy isotopes of oxygen for studies related to chemistry physics and life sciences as well as advanced biomedical and brain research. For many years, this facility, both about basic research produced most of the world’s supply of O¹⁸ and O¹⁷ isotopes, which in turn led the Weizmann Institute to establish the first technology transfer company in Israel, Yeda Research and Development, in 1954.
