VILLE DE PARIS

Parc Montsouris
1875

Translation of the text on the sign:
CITY OF PARIS

Montsouris Park
1875

The creation of this park to the south of Paris, under the leadership of Napoleon III as part of the major Haussmann works, was entrusted to the engineer Alphand.
The emperor wanted to provide the cardinal points of Paris with green spaces as large as London’s parks. Covering an area of 15.4 hectares, it owes its name to the numerous rodents which had multiplied along the smoulins of the Bièvre.
