Jardin des abords du Petit Palais
2005

CITY OF PARIS

Garden around the Petit Palais
2005

The garden around the Petit Palais forms one of the squares of the Champs-Élysées. Its history dates back to 1616, when Marie de Médicis decided to create a landscaped path on marshy land. In 1670, André Le Nôtre designed the Avenue des Champs-Élysées there. Until the beginning of the 19th century, only six houses were built there. The Petit Palais, designed by the architect Charles Girault (1851-1932), was built for the 1900 Universal Exhibition.
