שני טנקי קרומוול נגנבו על ידי חיילים של הצבא הבריטי, מייק פלניגן והארי מקדונאלד, בליל 29 ביוני, 1948, ממחנה הצבא הבריטי בחיפה לפני יציאתו מארץ ישראל. הכלים הועברו לצה"ל והיו מראשוני הטנקים בחיל השריון והשתתפו במלחמת העצמאות במבצעים "דני", "יואב" ו"חורב", כחלק מגדוד הטנקים הראשון 82. בהשראת צללית הטנק עוצב [הסמל של חיל השריון].

Two Cromwell tanks were stolen by British soldiers, Mike Flanagan and Harry McDonald, on the night of June 29, 1948, from the British base in Haifa, before the British withdrawal from Palestine. The tanks were handed over to the IDF and were to become some of the first tanks of the IDF’s Armored Corps. They took part in the War of Independence, in Operations Dani, Yoav and Horev, within Battalion 82, the first tanks battalion. The emblem of the Armored Corps was inspired by this tank’s [silhouette].

On the front of the tank is a commemorative plaque with the following text:
