טנק מערכה כבד שיוצר בברית המועצות בשנות ה-70, בעל תותח גדל קליבר חלק קדח ומצויד במערכת טעינה אוטומטית - המאפשרת את הפעלתו ע"י שלושה אנשי צוות בלבד. הטנק מצוי בשירות צבאות עיראק, לוב וסוריה. במהלך מבצע שלום הגליל, טנקים מסוג זה השתתפו בקרבות עם כוחות צה"ל באזור בקעת הלבנון. הכלי המוצג, הועבר למוזיאון השריון בלטרון ע"י ממשלת גרמניה לאחר שירות בצבא מזרח גרמניה.

This Soviet-made main battle tank (MBT) from the 1970’s is equipped with a large-caliber smoothbore gun and an automatic loading system, which makes it possible to operate it with only three crew members. The tank serves in the armies of Iraq, Libya and Syria. During the 1982 Operation Peace for Galilee, such tanks battled Israeli tanks in Lebanon’s Beqaa Valley. The tank on display, the sole T-72 in Israel, was given to the Armored Corps Museum in Latrun by the German government after it had served in the East German army.
