The first grocery store
Here, at 14 KKL (JNF) Street, the Borochov Neighborhood Consumer-Manufacturing Association established the first grocery store. The association was founded on ideas of sharing and mutual assistance, and in order to save the mediation gap. The first stocks of the association were priced 5 Israeli Lira.
The association dealt with three topics: providing food, clothing, farming needs and labor to farms and friends, marketing the agricultural output and providing credit to members.
The consumers first manager was Joseph Rothberg.
As a result of its success, additional consumer goods were opened in Givatayim, from which the idea spread throughout the country, and additional networks were established: the Co-op and others. The grocery store was also a focus of social life.

[Another sign looks like an advertisement for the Blue Square Company]
The cooperative initiative that began as a local consumer and grew into the co-op network has developed into a Blue Square Israel Company Ltd. - the flagship of Israeli retail.
Today Blue Square Israel Ltd. operates a number of nationally deployed marketing networks (mega, mega city and market abundance), and is an example of a combination of business power, marketing innovation, environmental awareness and community engagement.
Its gaze is directed forward to the goals of the future, but her roots are deeply rooted in the early days - days of sharing, brotherhood and concern for others.
