Background

Derech HaYayin (Wine Route) is in fact HaMeyasdim Street in Zikhron Ya’akov. The first founders of Zikhron Ya’akov lived along this street.

The street, which is now a pedestrian walkway, was renovated and restored while preserving the unique character of its historic houses.

The logo accompanying the project features an illustration of grapes and grape leaves, appropriate for a colony that was based on grape cultivation and was home to the second-largest winery in Israel (today the largest winery, following the closure of the Rishon LeZion Winery).

At the top of the logo appears the inscription "House Stories Route", and at the bottom "1882" - the year the Zikhron Ya’akov colony was founded.

The route begins at the "Yishai Gate"

 

, named after Yishai Shibovsky (1926-2003), a native of the town who, although not one of the original settlers, served as head of the local council for 30 years and promoted the restoration of the area and its transformation into a tourist site.

Along the route are the houses of the settlers, including the Bunstein House

, and additional houses.

About the plaques

The plaques are made of metal, rectangular in shape, and are mounted on posts or on the walls of the houses. The logo of the Wine Route appears at the top of most of the plaques
