"Hachlama" Convalescent Home
The building was founded in 1934 by Dora Bloch and joined the ranks of numerous rest homes in the "Hill" and HaKeshet Street area. Residents were evacuated from the two-story building in the spring of 1948, so that the General Staff of the "Hagana" could use the building to direct the War of Independence. The swearing-in ceremony for the IDF High Command was conducted on June 27th, 1948 in the yard of the "Hachlama" building. In 1955, the elementary school Shiloh (an acronym in Hebrew for "the teacher’s union jubilee year") was transferred here.
In 1983, a decade after the death of first Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion, the school was renamed after him, to commemorate his activities on the "Hill" during the War of Independence.
