The statue is located in Parliament Square, and is one of the 12 statues surrounding the square.

The statue shows who was the Prime Minister of Great Britain, who laid the foundation for the establishment of the Conservative Party in Great Britain. Peel, who was previously Home Secretary, saw to the establishment of the Metropolitan Police of London.

The bronze statue made by Matthew Noble was placed in 1876 and is one of the first three statues placed in the square.
