The Hebrew School for girls
The Hebrew School for girls was founded in Jaffa under the auspices of the "Kol Israel Haverim" and the "Hovevei Tzion" associations in 1893.
In 1896 the school moved to Neve Shalom neighbourhood.
This building was erected in 1908 by the contractor Joseph Eliyahu Chelouche and remained the location of the school until it closed in 1972.
Yehiel Yehieli was a teacher at the school from 1904, and its headmaster during the years 1918-1937. When he passed away. the building and the street leading to it were named after him.
During the pre-State period, the school building served as the "Haganah" Hq.
In the beginning of the 80’s the building was renovated to become The Neve Tzedek Theatre Group’s home, with the support of the Yerushalmy family and Bank Leumi Le-Israel.
In 1989, on the joint initiative of the Dellal family, the Tel Aviv Foundation, the Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality, and the Ministry of Culture and Education, the present building was renovated as part of the Suzanne Dellal Centre for Dance and Theatre.
