Shaare Zedek-Wallach Hospital
Shaare Zedek Hospital was named after its founder Dr. Moshe Wallach, who was born in 1866 in Germany and immigrated to the land of Israel in 1891. The hospital was built thanks to his initiative, and perseverance, and the donations of German and Dutch Jews. Dr. Moshe Wallach was the director of the hospital until 1947, when he retired at the age of eighty, but continued to live there until his death in 1957. He is buried in the graveyard near the hospital.
Since its establishment, the Shaare Zedek Hospital accompanied the Jewish settlement in Jerusalem and contributed greatly to the health of the city residents. For his life work, Dr. Wallach received an honorary citizen’s award from the Municipality of Jerusalem. In 1980,Shaare Zedek Hospital moved to its new premises near Mt. Herzl. In 1999, renovations of the original building were completed and today the building houses the Israel Broadcasting Authorities.
