On the sign:
Potter’s Cave

This cave served the potter who then marketed his wares to the vessels seller.

The creation process: First, mud was mined from the bottom of local springs. It was then settled in precipitation pools, sifted and turned into workable material. In the potter’s cave ’studio’ he would lay the material on the potter’s wheel and fashion the particular vessel. It would then be decorated, polished and smoothed before being refined in a furnace heated to 1,000 degrees Celsius. Ceramic vessels were used for food, cooking and storing liquids and agricultural produce.

The word which came to Jeremiah from Hashem, saying, ’Arise and go down to the potter’s home... so I went to the potter’s home and behold, he was working on the potter’s wheel." (Jeremiah 18:5)
