עופות דורסים באזורינו
חיוואי הנחשים: החיוואי הוא עוף דורס הדומה לעיט גדול בעל גוף בהיר, ממשפחת הנציים. החיוויאי מתמחה באכילת נחשים ומכאן מקור שמו, "חיוויא" בארמית - נחש. גופו גדול יחסית, הנחשים הם התפריט העיקרי שלו. את החיוואי ניתן לראות עם בוא האביב, לאחר ששה בצפון אפריקה ונהנה שם משלל נחשים. נזהה אתו בשמיים על פי גופו הבהיר, ראשו הגדול ועיניו הצהובות. על אף שהחיוויאי אוהב לחיות בבדידות נמצא פרטים רכים דואים מעל שדות שעברו את שלב החריש בגלל שהמחרשה חושפת את האדמה בה מסתתרים נחשים רבים. אזור חבל לכיש הוא אחד מבתי הגידול המשמעותיים - של החיוויאי.
