THE TOWER OF LONDON MOAT

FROM LAWN TO SUPERBLOOM
In the spring of 2022, the Tower of London’s moat was transformed from a barren, flat lawn into a haven for bees, butterflies and other pollinators in the heart of the city. This year the blooms have returned, and visitors can once again enter the moat and experience the Tower of London from a new perspective. They can find out about stories of the moat’s history and what life was like in the Tower. The moat will be open over the summer months for visitors to enjoy.

RESEEDING THE MOAT
At the end of last summer, the wildflowers dropped their seeds. Most of them germinated again this year, but some areas struggled and needed extra care and attention.
This spring we re-seeded the mounds in the north moat, with the help of shire horses. The seeds here are a bit behind the rest of the wildflowers in their growth, which is why it looks a little patchy. Every year we are learning more about the conditions in the moat, and about what grows well, where. This will heip our plans for planting more diversely in the future.

PERMANENT TRANSFORMATION
Planting wildflowers in the moat is the first step in our plan to permanently transform the Tower of London moat into abeautiful biodiverse landscape. Historic Royal Palaces is an independent charity that cares for the moat and the Tower of London. Our work is not possible without the help from our supporters. If you would like to make a donation to support the moat’s future and Historic Royal Palaces text BLOOM followed by your donation amount to 70460.
e.g. Text BLOOM 5 to 70460 to donate $5. Texts will cost the donation amount plus one standard network rate message.
