The statue commemorates the painter and engraver Charles Paul Renouard (1845-1924), born in Cour-Cheverny, near the city of Blois. Renouard, who was a painter, illustrator and engraver, is known for his participation in the paintings found in the Paris Opera (Opéra Garnier). He was a graphic illustrator for many newspapers, and his paintings on the Dreyfus trial are especially known.
