טנק מגח מבוסס על טנק הפטון M60A1 האמריקאי, שנכנס לשירות צה"ל לפני מלחמת יום הכיפורים. טנק זה היה מודרני בתקופתו בהשוואה לטנקי המגח והשוט קל שהיו בשירות חיל השריון. טנק מגח 6א הוכנס לשירות בחטיבת השריון 600 ונטל חלק בקרבות הקשים בסיני במהלך מלחמת יום הכיפורים. הטנק המוצב כאן, לחם בכול הקרבות של גדוד הסיור 87 (פלוגה ג’) לרבות הלחימה העזה בצומת "טרטור – לכסיקון" תחת פיקודו של המ"מ יאיר ליטוויץ. טנק צ-817531 ניפגע בלחימה, שוקם והמשיך בקרבות מלחמת יום כיפור עם אותו צוות במסגרת גדוד 79. הטנק הוסב לתצורת מגח 6ב’ גל ושירת עד לתחילת שנות ה-2000.

The Magach tank is based on the American M60A1 Patton tank, which entered IDF service before the Yom Kippur War. Compared to the Magach and Shot-Cal tanks that served in the Armored Corps at the time, it was considered a modern tank. The Magach 6A tank entered service within the 600th Armored Brigade and participated in the difficult battles in Sinai, during the Yom Kippur War. The tank on display here fought in all the battles of the 87th Reconnaissance Battalion (Company III), including the fierce combat at the Lexicon-Tirtur Junction, under the command of Platoon Commander, Yair Litwitz. Tank no. 817831 was hit in battle, rehabilitated and re-entered the Yom Kippur War combat, with the same crew, within the 79th Battalion. The tank’s configuration was changed to that of a Magach 6B Gal and it served until the early 2000’s.
