מוצא: אפריקה ואסיה

תכונות: עץ פרי ונוי, מתנשא לגובה 20 מ’. מדי שנה מצמיח הגזע קבוצת כפות (עלים) חדשה והכפות הישנות נושרות. פורח באביב ופירותיו מבשילים בסוף הקיץ. העץ יכול להניב פרי עד גיל 100 שנים.

סיפור: עצים אלו ניטעו בשנת 2018 במקום עצי הדקל הקנרי ההיסטוריים שניטעו בשנת 1889/90 בשדרה לאורכה ולרוחבה ונכרתו בשל פגיעתה של חיפושית חידקונית הדקל.

Name: Phoenix Dactylifera - Common Date Palm

Origin: Africa, Asia

Traits: Ornamental fruiting tree of heights up to 20 meters. It produces groups of new leaves annually as the old ones fall. Flowering in spring, the fruit ripens at the end of summer. The common date palm can produce fruit for about a century.

The story: These trees were planted in 2018 to replace the historical Canary Island palms originally planted in 1889-90 along the boulevard’s length. The old trees were uprooted as a result of sever date weevil damage.
