מוצא: קליפורניה ומקסיקו

תכונות: דקל נוי המתנשא לגובה של יותר מ-15 מ’. הגזע יחיד, דק וישר ואינו מוציא חוטרים. קוטר העלים מגיע למטר. העלים המתייבשים נותרים צמודים לגזע שנים רבות. העץ פורח בקיץ ופריו ענבה שחורה דקה ומתקתקה.

סיפור: לדברי מתכנן הגן, האדריכל יחיאל סגל, עצי הוושינגטוניה ניטעו על ידי בית הספר "חביב" בשנות ה-40 של המאה ה-20, כדי לטשטש את צורת הצלב שהתוו שדרות הדקלים.

Name: Washingtonia Filifera

Origin: California and Mexico

Traits: An ornamental palm reaching a height of more than 15 meters and more. The stem is single, thin and straight and does not produce air roots. The diameter of the leaves reaches width of 1 meter. Dry leaves hang close to the trunk for many years. The tree flowers in summer and its fruit is a thin, sweet black grape.

The story: According to the garden’s planner, architect Yechiel Segal, the Washingtonia trees were planted by the Haviv school in the 1940s to obscure the shape of the cross drawn by Palm boulevard.
