פרחיו של עץ זה תלויים מענפיו והם הגדולים ביותר מבין פרחיהם של כל עצי הקמפוס. עליו גדולים, ירוקים בהירים. העצים הגדלים כאן אינם נושאים פרי, כנראה בגלל העדרם של ציפורי קוליברי הנחוצות להאבקה.

Natural range: Central and S. America

The largest flowers on any campus trees dangle from these branches, along with large, light green leaves. Those planted here rarely produce fruits, probably because here there are no hummingbirds, needed for their pollination.

This tree’s family, the nightshades, includes several plants very useful to people, and one that’s extremely harmful. Can you name them?

קרובים מועילים של עץ זה הם: תפוח אדמה, עגבניה, חציל, פלפל ירוק ואדום. קרוב מזיק הוא הטאבאק, אשר גרם למותם של יותר אנשים מאשר כל צמח אחר; מחצית מהמעשנים מתים מעישון עד 25(!) שנים מוקדם מאשר הצפי הרפואי שלהם!

[The Answer to the question]
Useful relatives of this tree are potato, tomato, eggplant, green and red pepper. Harmful relative - tobacco, which has killed more people than any other plant in history. Half of all smokers die from smoking, up to 25 years earlier than their expected lifespan.
