שם מדעי: Persea americana
עץ ממשפחת העריים. שמו מגיע מהשפה האצטקית. מוצא האבוקדו במקסיקו ומרכז אמריקה, הגיע לישראל ב-1920, אך רק בשנות ה-60 הפך לגידול מבוקש. האבוקדו אינו מבשיל על העץ, אלא רק לאחר קטיפתו. העץ פורח באביב וקטיף הפרי בחודשי החורף. יש מספר רב של סוגים. הפופולאריים בישראל הם אס ואטינגר, צבע קליפת האבוקדו ירוק. וצבע הפרי צהבהב/ירקרק. לפרי גרעין גדול.

Avocado
Scientific name: Persea americana
A tree from the Lauraceae family. Its name comes from the Aztec language. The origin of avocados in Mexico and Central America, arrived to Israel in 1920, but only in the 1960s became a common agricultural crop. The avocado does not ripen on the tree, but only after it is picked. The tree blooms in the spring and the fruit is picked in the winter months. There are numerous types. The most popular in Israel are Hass and Ettinger, the color of the avocado peel is green. And the color of the fruit is yellowish/greenish. The fruit has a large pit.
