The Augusta Victoria complex, located on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem, housed the High Commissioners for Palestine for a period, and a hospital operated there. As part of Operation Yevusi, in which attempts were made to take over neighborhoods in Jerusalem that had been evacuated by the British, an attempt was also made to take over the Augusta Victoria compound, which was well fortified. The attempt failed, but the action helped pave the way for a university on Mount Scopus.
