Shaduf (kilon)
A Shaduf (kilon) is a device that assists in drawing low-level water and bringing it to higher ground. It originated in Egypt where several methods to draw water from the Nile were invented. The kilon is made out of a wooden beam, used as lever that moves on an axis, with a bucket at one end to draw water from a well or pool.

The kilon is mentioned in the Mishnah regarding the prohibition on farming during a shmita year (sabbatical year of the land): "An irrigated field may be watered during the festival or in the sabbatical year both froma newly-emerging spring and from a spring that is not just emerged, but not with water from stored rain, nor from a kilon (Mishnah, Moed Katan 1:1).
