מעלה הבשמים (חינה ובושם)
אנו נמצאים במרום "מַעֲלֵה הַבְּשָׂמִים", בו גדלים מיני צמחי-בושם המוזכרים במקורות, כגון מרווה, לוטם דביק, הנזכר כאחד מהזיהויים של הלוט הקדום ואזוביון דגול - לבנדר.

אשכול הכופר הידוע בשמו הערבי "חינה" גדל גם הוא כאן ומשמש לבישום וצביעת העור. מעליו הכתושים מכינים אבקה המשמשת לטיפולי יופי, בריאות ולטכסים שונים. אשכולות הפרחים הצהבהבים בתקופת האביב שימשו גם הם לבישום בעבר:
"אֶשְׁכֹּל הַכֹּפֶר דּוֹֹדִי לי בְּכַּרְמֵי עֵין גֶּדִי" (שיר השירים א’ י"ד).

Ma’aleh Ha’Besamim (Ascent of Spices)
We are standing at the top of the Ascent of Spices where various biblical perfumed plants grow. Among them are sage, rockrose and lavender.

Lawsonia alba commonly known by its Arabic name, henna, also grows here and is used in perfumes and body painting. The henna leaves are crushed into a powder used in beauty, health treatments and ceremonies. In spring the yellow flower clusters were also used in perfume: "My beloved is to me as a spray of henna blooms from the vineyards of Ein Gedi" (Song of Songs 1:14).
