A fauna existente na Tapada Nacional de Mafra, encontra alimento nos recursos naturais que a floresta tem para oferecer. Nos verões secos e invernos mais rigorosos, em que a alimentação natural pode escassear, são fornecidos suplementos alimentares dirigidos essencialmente aos cervideos e aos javalis.

QUE SUPLEMENTOS
São diversificados podendo variar entre cereals, ração especifica para as espécies em questão, fruta e fardos de feno ou de luzera. A escolha da alimentação a fornecer depende das carências alimentares sentidas e do ciclo de vida das próprias espécies. São ainda disponibilizados blocos de sais minerais designados por "Pedras de sal. Consumidas quer pelas fêmeas quer pelos machos dos cervideos, são estes ulumos os principais beneficados, dado que um bom crescimento das hastes garante o seu sucesso como reprodutores.

Para além de épocas do ano extremas, a época de nascimentos e durante o crescimento das hastes, são as alturas em que os animais necessitam de uma alimentação mais rica em nutrientes
