חַיִּים זֶלִיג סְלוֹנִימְסְקִי
1904-1810

מייסד ועורך "הצפירה" העיתון העברי הראשון בפולין. פעל בעיקר בוורשה. חיבר טקסטים מדעיים בעברית, שעסקו במתמטיקה, אסטרונומיה, אופטיקה, הנדסה ועוד. הוא הקדיש לעניינים אלה מקום נרחב בעיתונו, ובכך הביא את חידושי המדע לקהל קוראי העברית. כמו כן, שקד על המצאות שונות שהידועה בהן היא מכונת חישוב (1844). על המצאה זו זכה בהכרה ובפרסים.
תקופת מה כיהן כראש בית המדרש למורים ולרבנים בז’יטומיר וכצנזור לספרים בעברית וביידיש מטעם השלטון הרוסי.

The Haskalah Avenues are named after the Haskalah movement (Jewish Enlightenment)
whose details can be found on the next sign Click for sign's details. The small streets located between Sderot HaHaskala and Bitzeron Street are named after the main figures in the movement.

Haim Selig Slonimski
1810-1904
Founder and editor of "Ha-Tsfira" the first Hebrew newspaper in Poland. Worked mainly in Warsaw. Compiled scientific texts in Hebrew, dealing with mathematics, astronomy, optics, engineering and more. He devoted a large space to these matters in his newspaper, thus bringing the innovations of science to the audience of Hebrew readers. Also worked on various inventions, the most famous of which is the calculating machine (1844). He won recognition and awards for this invention.
For a time he served as head of the Beit Midrash for teachers and rabbis in Zhytomyr and as a censor of books in Hebrew and Yiddish on behalf of the Russian government.
