טנק חילוץ בעל מנוע בנזין זה נרכש מעודפי הצבא האמריקאי במלחמת העולם השנייה והוכנס לשירות בצה"ל בשנות ה-50. כלי זה היה טנק החילוץ הראשון בצה"ל וסיפק מענה משוריין ונייד שהלם את קצב התקדמות השריון. מתחילת שנות השישים בוצעה בטנק זה הסבה, כדוגמת שאר טנקי השרמן, שכללה החלפת מנוע הבנזין למנוע דיזל והתקנת מערכת מזקו"מ רחבה.

This recovery tank, equipped with a gasoline engine, was purchased as World War II surplus from the U.S. army and entered IDF service in the 1950’s. This was the IDF’s first recovery tank and it provided an armored, mobile response befitting the progress of the Armored Corps. Starting in the early 1960’s, the tank was converted, like the other Sherman tanks, to include a Diesel engine, wide tracks and an improved suspension.
