נולד בהונגריה. בשנת 1876 עלה לארץ. גוטמן היה זקן קבוצת היוזמים והמייסדים של המושבה ובעל ההון שביניהם. אדמות המושבה נרכשו בכספו. עמד בראש המתיישבים הראשונים ויצג אותם מול המוסדות המרכזיים בארץ ישראל ומחוצה לה.

Translation of the text on the sign: Meir David Gutman 1827-1894
Born in Hungary. He immigrated to Israel in 1876. Gutman was the elder of the colonys founders and founders and the owner of the capital between them. The colony lands were purchased with his money. He chaired the first settlers and represented them with the central institutions in Israel and abroad.
