1890-1917

Born in Zichron Yaacov, as a child showed an aptitude for languages serving her well as a brave spy in the Nili, an acronym for the biblical verse, "The Eternal One of Israel Will Not Lie". On her train journey home following a short spell in Turkey, she was shocked at the scenes of Armenian genocide, and decided to join the Nili underground movement against the Turks on behalf of the British. When captured and tortured by the Turks she committed suicide, refusing to reveal the names of her compatriots in the Underground, dying a true heroine. She will always be remembered as Sarah, heroine of the Nili.
