On the sign:

The Yarkon Bream
(Acanthobrama telavivensis)

As a result of the pollution of Israel’s coastal streams most Yarkon Bream have become extinct. In order to repopulate the natural environment, a pool was built alongside the Yarkon, serving as a semi-natural system that uses water from the Yarkon under controlled conditions: The pool prevents Bream from escaping into the river while preventing other kinds of river fish from entering, thus allowing the Bream to preproduce.
In 2012, for the first time in decades, Yarkon Bream were observed in the central segment of the river, which had previously been very polluted.
