Housing quarters for Police officers
The British police fort included living quarters for police officers who served at the station.
Upon the establishment of the State of Israel, the building was handed ever to the Israeli Police force. Housing quarters within the building became less necessary and were converted into offices and other police functions.
Still, there was a need for accommodation for police officers who lived far away. In the 1950’s, two new buildings were thus erected near the fort on the eastern part of the lot. These houses were used as living quarters for the Israeli police officers.
Both buildings were constructed as two-storey apartment buildings, similar in style to the local housing, and therefore blending in with other buildings in the street. Each building contained four apartments with three rooms each.
The buildings were demolished in 2018 as part of a construction plan for building a residential tower and restoring the police fort.
