The AMX-13 is a French-produced air-transportable light tank, manufactured in 1952. This was the first modern tank purchased by the IDF, before the Sinai Campaign, in which it took part. The engine is located in the front, near the driver’s compartment. The tank possessed high speed and had relatively poor protection. The main gun was highly accurate and had good penetration capability for its time. AMX-13 tanks took part in the Sinai Campaign and participated in the battle of the Mitla Pass. In the Six Day War, these tanks participated in the battles in Sinai and in the Golan Heights.
