On the sign:
14
Pinus canariensis

Canary Islands
Pine Pinus canariensis

Natural range: Canary Islands

Think big: These pines, with straight trunks and pointed tops, tower over most other campus trees. Their cones are the largest and their needles the longest you’ll find here.

[a question]
Notice several short branches projecting from this trunk, just above your eye level. How much higher above the ground do you think they will be in 10 years? In 50 years?

[The fourth face of the cube]

[The Answer to the question]
The branches will be at the same height as today. A tree grows taller by adding height only at its top (unlike us, who add to our height by growing all over).
