תפוצה טבעית: אגן הים התיכון (מלבד לוב ומצרים), ישראל

הזית הוא אחד הפירות הראשונים שבויתו (נשתלו ושופרו על פי בחירתו של האדם). הפרי היה מוצר מרכזי בכלכלתה של ארץ ישראל בזמן העתיק. אחד מ"שבעת המינים". העץ ירוק עד כהה, בעל גזע "ורידי" מחורץ וחביב על אמנים.

Olive
Olea europaea

Natural range: Mediterranean basin (except Libya and Egypt), Israel

One of the first fruit species ever domesticated (planted and improved through selection by people). Its oil became a staple of ancient Israel’s economy. One of Israel’s "Seven Species." Deeply evergreen, with a sinewy trunk, favored by artists.
