Natural range: Japan

Though resembling palms, cycads evolved long before the palms, before the other flowering trees, and before the conifer trees and even before the dinosaurs. The tree before you is a female, and to its right is a male.

הדמיון בין ציקס לבית תמר: לשניהם צמרת גדולה שעליה מורכבים ובשניהם הגזע לא מכוסה בקליפה; כל עץ הוא זכר או נקבה. השוני: בציקסים, בניגוד לתמר, ניצנים קטנים מופיעים על הגזע, ללא פריחה על העץ. בעץ הזכרי מופיעים איצטרובלים (מאוחר באביב עד אמצע קיץ).

[The Answer to the question]
Cycad\palm similarities: A crown of large, compound leaves, trunk with no bark, and each tree is either a male or a female. Differences: In cycads, but not palms, small buds are found on the trunk, no flowers, and male tree has cones (late spring to mid-summer).
