Crataegus monogyna

Common Hawthorn
Crataegus monogyna

Natural range: Central and Southern Europe, Middle East, Israel

Colors sparkle in this small tree, much of the year. Little white flowers signal spring. Autumn brings brilliant red berries, lasting several months. These are seen first among bright green, lobed leaves, and later, after leaf fall, against the blue sky.

[a question]
Hawthorn’s cousins in the rose family include the apple, pear, apricot, peach, plum, cherry, loquat and almond. If the red berries are out, taste one. How does it compare to its cousins?

[The fourth face of the cube]

[The Answer to the question]
Most people find these berries bland tasting, compared to many other fruits of the rose family. But taste is an individual matter, so they may be to your liking.
