Cedrus libani

Cedar of Lebanon
Cedrus libani

Natural range: Lebanon, Syria, S. Turkey

King Solomon built Jerusalem’s Holy Temple with the wood of this species. Growing here at the campus entrance, this tree symbolizes the University as a "temple" of modern learning.
This tree died, and was replaced by this small one of the same species, in 2019.

[a question]
The cedar’s fragrant chemicals (crush a needle and smell) preserve its wood by repelling insects, and other pests. But doesn’t the tree need to attract insects for pollination?

[The fourth face of the cube]

[The Answer to the question]
Wind, not insects, carries the pollen of cedars, and of other conifer (cone-bearing) trees.
