Translation of the text on the sign:
The Sculpture Garden - Yigal Tomarkin
Igal Tumarkin
"Holon Sculpture Garden"
The sculpture garden was inaugurated in 1971 and was designed by the sculptor Igael Tumarkin as a maze of white painted concrete walls that lead the viewer’s eye and create different spaces that serve as a background for his sculptures. 20 different iron sculptures were placed throughout the garden.
Yigal Tumarkin was born in Dresden, Germany in 1933. In 1935 he immigrated to Israel with his mother. After serving in the navy he studied with the sculptor Rudi Lehman in Ein Hod. In 1955 he went to Germany and became a set designer at Bertold Brecht’s theater in Berlin, where he also created his first iron sculptures. About three years later he moved to Paris where he exhibited pictures made from industrial scraps. In the years 1974-1977 he lived in the USA. Tumarkin won many prizes in Israel and all over the world for his special work.
