לעץ זה, שהוא מזן מיוחד, פרחים אדומים בולטים מאוד, אך הוא אינו נושא פירות. מספר עצי נוי של רימון ננסי עם פירות קטנים נטועים ברחבי הקמפוס. הרימון יחד עם התמר הזית והתאנה בויתו מוקדם בהיסטוריה.

Pomegranate
Punica granatum

Natural range: S. E. Europe to Iran

This particular variety of pomegrante tree sports extra-showy red flowers, but it grows no fruits. Several ornamental, dwarf pomegranate trees, with small fruits, dot the campus. Along with the date, olive, and fig, the pomegranate was domesticated early in history.

הרימון הינו אחד מ"שבעת המינים"; סמל לפריון לבריאות ולהצלחה; לפרי הרבה גרגרים (לפי המסורת כמספר המצוות - תרי"ג); שימש כקישוט בבית המקדש וכיום מעטר בתי כנסת; "כתר" הפרי שימש כהשראה לכתרי מלכים.

Pomegranate fruit is one of Israeľ’s "Seven Species." It is a symbol of fertility and success because of its many seeds, by tradition 613, the number of essential "mitzvot," or commandments. It is a Temple and synagogue ornament, and the fruit’s crown was the design inspiration for the crowns of kings.
