After eight years of operating various models of surplus World War II Sherman tanks, the IDF began equipping tanks with a 76-mm cannon, wider tracks, and easy openings. These tanks served in the Six-Day War against the Jordanian Legion in Jerusalem, leading the breakthrough to the Old City. It is known from the photograph of the paratroopers breaking through to the Lions Gate.
