The M48 Patton tanks entered into IDF service in the mid 1960’s. These tanks took part in the Sinai battles of the Six Day War, as part of General Israel Tal’s Armored Division. The Ordnance Corps upgraded these tanks to include a 105 mm gun, a Diesel engine and an improved transmission. These vehicles participated in the Yom Kippur War and in Operation Peace for Galilee. They were later equipped with reactive add-on armor, an automatic fire extinguishing system and more.
