The Centurion Mark 5 was acquired from Great Britain in the early 1960’s. The tank was equipped with a Meteor gasoline engine and was nicknamed Shot-Meteor in the IDF. It participated in the Six Day war, in the 1968 Battle of Karameh and in the Yom Kippur War. After the Six Day War, the tank was gradually upgraded, including the installation of a British 105 mm gun, a Diesel engine and an American transmission. The improved tank is named the Shot-Cal.
